THAI CONSTRACTORS ASSOCIATIONS UNDER HM. THE KING’S PATRONAGE

THE FIRST PERIOD

* 1928 ; The Association was found with most members were foreigners and only two Thais. Many meeting and seminars being held regularly then. However, the attendants gradually reduced and finally vanished.

* 12nd December 1928 ; The association was formally registered under the name of “The Engineering Association of Siam.”

* 28th December 1928 ; The Association first general meeting was held at Phayathai Palace with 21 out of 31 member attended. The founder members invited His Royal Highness General Prince Purachata Jayakara, Prince of Kambaengbejra to be the honorary member and the Chairman of the first Committee, along with His Serene Highness Lieutenant General Srethasiri and The Third Grand Councilor Phraya Sarasatsirilaksana to be the Vice President respectively.

* 31th March 1929 ; Prince Purachatra Jayakara, Prince of Kambaengbejra led the Association General Committee to have an audience in front of His Majesty King Rama VII at the Sukhothai Palace. The General Committee asked for his royal assent to patronize the Association. His majesty the King Rama VII graciously accepted the Association under his royal patronage.

* The Engineering Association of Siam under the Royal Patronage carried well until 1932 during which the major political reformation took place. The Association, then, ceased its activities until 1936.

THE SECOND PERIOD

* IN 1936 after the political reformation, the Engineering Association of Siam under the Royal Patronage rectified its organization roles, resulting in its first changed of name to “The Engineering Association of Thailand”. The phase “under the Royal Patronage” has not been used since then without justifiable reason.

* 1946 ; Luang Yukataseriwivatana was elected the President of the Association. During this period, the office of the Association was located at the present National Economic and Social Development Board.

* The Association’s second halt came when World War II broke out. The Association was forced to suspend all activities until the war was over.

THE THIRD PERIOD

* The golden age of the construction industry blossomed again. Thailand, then, entered the new era with technological advancements. The construction industry expanded widely and rapidly.

* Luang Yukataseriwivatana was appointed the Director General of the Department of Public and Municipal Works. He, once again, resuscitated the Association’s activities.

* Later, Mr. Sa-nga Wanadith was re-elected the first President of this new era. During this period, the Association moved its office to join the Thai Chamber of Commerce at Rachborpith Road.

* In 1965; the Association moved one step further by joining the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors Association (IFAWPCA). By becoming the member of IFAWPCA, the Association has many opportunities to join international meetings and seminars, thus enable members to exchange knowledge on construction technique with other foreign members.

* The significant change came in 1966, when the Government enacted the Domestic Trade Legislation Act specified that all private sectors and associations located in Thailand must enlisted its name with the Domestic Trade Department.

* 13th October 1967; the Association re-registered under the new name of “The Engineering Contractors Association” and moved its office to the present location on 110 Wireless Road.

* 29th April 1983 ; Mr. Mana Kannasutr, the Association’s ninth President re-named the Association to the present “The Thai Contractors Association”.

* 1998 ; Mr. Jaroon Janjamratsaeng was elected the President and the Association underwent a major renovation. A three stories building was constructed and divided into several meeting rooms available for the use of all members. The Association old building was torn down and rebuilt as a museum, depicting the history and background of the Association. Furthermore, a statue of Prince Purachatra Jayakara, Prince of Kambaengbejra was established as Thailand’s Father of Construction.

* 18th January 2001 ; The Association submitted the letter of request to be under His Majesty the King, Bhumibol Adulyadej patronage for the Association auspicious and honours.

* 27th April 2001 ; Her Royal Highness Princess Vimalachatra, the daughter of Prince Purachatra Jayakara, Prince of Kambaengbejra unveiled the statue of Prince Purachatra Jayakara, Prince of Kambaengbejra at the office of the Association.

* 24th October 2001 ; His Majesty the King, Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously accepted the Association under his royal patronage.
